My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

At least that’s who I was in my previous life. Now, I’m just a gaming, married Marine veteran with two kids. Not quite as glorious as commanding Roman Legions, but just as good in my opinion. Sure do miss my servants though…

I come from a large family (11 kids altogether). No, we’re not Mormons. No, we’re not Catholic. My parents just REALLY like babies. I’m #7 on the list, but most importantly I was the first son. That’s right, 6 older sisters. It’s ok, I survived. I started playing video games at a fairly young age thanks to an uncle providing my family with a Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and I’ve kept playing ever since. I joined the Marines right after high school. I was originally planning on being a Combat Cameraman and capture all the action on film, but then thought, “Why not just be PART of the action?” Not the smartest thing I’ve ever thought of, and, considering I tested high enough to have any job the Marines offered, it seemed even more reckless. Needless to say my parents weren’t too fond of their eldest son choosing a job that tends to get shot at, but they were both proud and supportive of my decision.I joined as a Marine Infantryman and became an 0331 Machinegunner and worked with the big toys, eventually getting stationed in Hawaii. Loved every minute of it. I wasn’t even out of bootcamp for 6 months before shipping off on my first deployment. It was a blast. Seriously, had my dang humvee blown up. It was new! Had to rip off all the factory plastic coverings and zip-ties. And the A/C worked! Honestly, I was less upset about ME being blown up and more about having my brand-new truck decimated before I could properly break it in.

I came back from Iraq and did what I swore all throughout high school I would never do: I started to date the nicest girl I knew. Funny how a series of awful relationships and 7 months of being shot at and blown up will change your priorities in life. Somehow she thought I was worth holding on to and stuck out a deployment with me. Then she tricked me into marrying her after that second tour (don’t believe her when she says I brought it up). We spent the rest of my last year in the Marines in Hawaii and then came back home to California and family. A little over a year of being a civilian brought about my greatest pride and joy: a small, round, milk vampire that resembles a miniature human being. My son. As of this writing he is a running, screaming, whining, laughing, wrestling, climbing, cat-abusing toddler of over 2 years old who is now a very proud big brother. My wife and I recently had gremlin #2 (of the female variant) recently and my boy couldn’t be happier to have a small creature to love on. And that’s about it. I go to work, I wrestle with my boy, burp my little girl, cuddle with my wife, and I pwn newbs online.
